The second point is that if you have anything controversial on your web pages they will shut you down in the blink of a eyelid, no reasons given, no information given, no refunds and if you pay them £10 under the Freedom of Information Acts you will lose that as well

I had some content posted about my own crap solicitor (and his barrister) on defamation.org.uk

My current hosts (Fasthost.co.uk) told me they had received a Solicitors letter allegeing defamation which was againts their T&C's and asked (nicely) for the website to be suspended, or they threatened to manually suspend it.

I thought it best to comply to show good faith.

As a reseller of their hosting services I do not want to get into a protracted debate on the issue when I can just move the hosting for that one domain elsewhere.

My first hosting company was 1&1 Internet Ltd, around May/June 2004, Thos Boyd Whyte Solicitors and Richard Hegarty & Co (Dickie the Chair), Chair of the Law Society's Compliance Board put pressure on them to close me down which they managed to do for five days. A Per Karschowski at 1&1 sent me email and suggests I use Fasthost, I believe he said it was one of their parent companies, which I did and all went well.

In February 2009 Rick Kordowski named two Solicitors on his website of Gregsons of Liverpool and they complained to Fasthost that I had defamatory content on my website about them. In the first instance Fasthost wouldn't tell me who had made the complaint and then made me pay £10 under the Freedom of Information Acts and then still refused to give me the information or refund my £10 nor the 18 months of hosting I had left to run. One.com is a Dutch based company and you should have no problem with them not only that they are real cheap.
i.e. first year including Domain name for 3,000mb of space (I only use 60mb) around £11 then about £20 a year including Domain annual fee. http://www.one.com/en/

I appreciate the help and info - fasthosts have done the same to me insofar as they won't state who has made a complaint but insisted the site be taken down.
